Nayla - 1st princess of the Sun kingdom, traveler and studious, she's open-minded in learning about other cultures. She secretly escapes on night walks through the city accompanied by her lover Zhula to relieve herself of royal responsibilities.
Nakoma - first prince and heir to the throne of the Sun, he's revered as a popular hero. Despite his proud and simple personality, Nakoma hides his insecurities about his future succession to the throne.
Malka - second prince of the Sun kingdom. Calm and calculated, he's head of a group of intelligence and espionage known as the Leopards.
Keeva - second princess of the Sun Kingdom. Curious and energetic youngest, she's fond of her tutor Skyler and brother Nakoma.
Skyler - scholar and alchemist human. Disciplined and restrained, she works as Keeva's mentor in exchange for political asylum. Despite being strict with Keeva at times, she's fondly concerned with the young princess.
Kamaria - Queen of the Sun Kingdom and leonine nation. A firm and astute leader, she maintains an illusive facade in front of other leaders in order to hide the fact that the king's health is becoming more and more unstable.
Quadrifante and Rhinoc - common travel and pack animals of the Sun Kingdom. Nakoma is specially fond of his Quadrifante named Fan Fan.
Bunme - Diplomat Suricate, he represents the interests of merchants and bourgeois of his ethnic group.
Fharaj - Ambassador of the Order of Serpentaries, a religious group that has several embassies in different cities and towns.
Dingane Aza - Lord of the Waters and ruler of the crocodilian nation. Despite being rigid and ruthless, he's quite friendly with Prince Nakoma.
Zhula - Mysterious hyena and love interest of Nayla. She accompanies the princess' usual nocturnal walks but also keeps some interesting secrets from her.
Akela - Matriarch representing the Alliance of Hyenas. Experienced and eloquent leader, she's actually relaxed and sarcastically uninterested in council meetings.
